Eat the Pepper
A comic on trying something new

OMG YOU MADE IT. Thank you!
This comic was born from a rough therapy session and a night eating the spiciest pad see ew I’ve ever eaten. The food actually made me cry. The waiters had to bring tissues to my table because I was crying so hard. But I couldn’t stop laughing, as well. Failing is kinda hilarious in it’s own way.
I’ve been playing with the idea of making comics for a while. I listened to Jamie Loftus’ series “Aack Cast” about comic artist Cathy Guisewite and the comic industry at large last year, and picked up “Making Comics” by Lynda Barry shortly after. I also follow a ton of comic creators on substack and insta, .
More than that, I am just in a mood to create things. I’ve been feeling the urge to do things badly just to have them done. If anything, I’m embracing the way I felt about creating things when I was 13 and all my ideas spilled out of me half formed begging to be in the world. I’ve been jealous of how 13-year-old-me was able to keep going. The sheer volume alone astounds me. And my Facebook memories feature.
I hope you’re doing well and I hope you get the chance to eat a lot of peppers this year!
XOXO
Chloe
